Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas (Member)

The DSG offers parent-to-parent support to families with new babies, young children, school age children, and adults with Down syndrome through personal visits, information packets, and/or quarterly informative gatherings. A trained Guild member is part of the team at the Down Syndrome Clinic at Children's Medical Center who assists families with new babies and young children. Monthly newsletters contain information about area activities and services, as well as articles on medical, educational, developmental, and social topics. The DSG has an extensive free lending library with current books and information for members. The DSG hosts an annual conference with nationally recognized speakers that is attended by parents, educators, and health professionals. Each year the DSG offers a series of clinics to help families with various aspects of life with a child with Down syndrome. Volunteers advocate at every opportunity for greater inclusion of people with Down syndrome in the community. Printed material is translated into Spanish including the monthly newsletter entirely in Spanish. Translators are provided at events when requested. Social events, such as our annual family picnic, "Snackin' with Santa," teen parties, and over-21 activities provide opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families to socialize in a safe and fun atmosphere.

Provides counseling for individuals, couples and families including age appropriate play therapy for children, counseling for teens. Provides safety planning, individual counseling and support groups for victims of family violence. Offers case management for those requiring a variety of services internal and external to the agency. Provides counceling, support and family support groups for those coping with breast cancer. Offers support for the elderly including LIFELINE 24 hour emergency response, counseling, transportation for medical appointments, homemaker services, Kosher Home Delivered Meals, assessments, help with paperwork, guardianship, friendly visitors and support groups (caregivers, bereavement, chronic pain). Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)

Supervises and trains community volunteers who are appointed by the courts to monitor and give recommendations to the courts on cases of children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and placed in foster care. Dallas Children`s Advocacy Center

The mission of the Dallas Children`s Advocacy Center (DCAC) is to improve the lives of abused children in Dallas County and provide national leadership on child abuse issues. DCAC reduces the re-victimization of the child, removes barriers to investigation and treatment, and enhances criminal prosecution with its distinctive multidisciplinary and united approach to child abuse cases. DCAC works in agreement with public and private agencies including Dallas law enforcement, Child Protective Services, the Disctric Attorney`s Office, Children`s Medical Center (REACH Clinic), and UT Southwestern to improve child abuse cases in Dallas County. The DCAC brings together a team of specialized professionals dedicated to investigating child abuse cases, providing therapy for child victims and prosecuting the offenders.
